INTERVENTIONAL BRONCHOSCOPY

Bronchoskopie1.png

Endoscopy of the bronchen by a flexible instrument. Under sedation or general anesthesia, the pulmonologist will first view the upper airways (ENT sphere) then, after inspection and passage of the larynx, entry is made through the trachea into the lung. Visualization of the 17 segments on each side.

During the bronchoscopy, the pulmonologist takes samples: bronchial aspiration and bronchoalveolar lavage for bacteriological and cytological analyses. Endo-  and transbronchial biopsies can be performed through the endoscope.

During investigations, for example for suspicion of a tumour, samples from the mediastinal lymph nodes from the bronchi may be necessary to decide on the follow-up treatment. This gesture is guided by an endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).

Bronchoscopies take place, -according to indication-, at Clinique La Source or Clinique La Prairie. A short half-day stay will be organized for you in one of the two establishments. As it is an outpatient procedure, basic insurance covers your examination.
